Since 2002 until last March, Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) has completed building 5,061 houses under the Rumah Mesra Rakyat 1Malaysia (RMR1M) programme in Kelantan.
Kelantan State Federal Action Council chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said 197 more houses were in the process of being completed while the documents for 33 were being drawn up.
“Kelantan has the highest number of houses being built and we want to thank SPNB for doing that for us in Kelantan,” he told reporters after a ceremony to hand over the certificates of fitness for the completed Kelantan PRM1M houses, here today.
Mustapa, who is also Minister of International Trade and Industry, said the construction of the houses would meet the needs of low-income people to own permanent houses on their own land.
“The government has given a subsidy of RM20,000 for each house. This is the government’s contribution to the people,” he said, adding that each home cost RM65,000.
Meanwhile, SPNB in a statement said between 2002 until March 31, a total of 35,094 houses had been completed throughout the country while 2,555 more were in the process of being built and documents for another 486 were being drawn up.
It said that 18,468 applicants were still in the waiting list to get houses.
The statement also said this year, 10,000 homes would be built throughout the country.
