KUALA LUMPUR, March 1— The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is upgrading the intersection at Jalan Mohd Yatim Yahaya and Jalan Wangsa Perdana 1, Wangsa Maju, to avoid congestion with the construction of several condominiums in the area.

Setiawangsa Member of Parliament Datuk Ahmad Fauzi Zahari said the upgrading works would involve making the stretch of road into two lanes, from only one lane previously, and installation of traffic lights at the intersection to Desa Putra Kondominium from Jalan Mohd Yatim Yahaya.

He said the decision was made following discussion with the relevant quarters, including local residents, Syarikat Prasarana, developers of the condominiums concerned and DBKL.

With the building of the condominiums, there will be an expected increase of about 20,000 people in population in the area, he told reporters after a dialogue with the residents in the area today.

Meanwhile, DBKL executive director (project management) Datuk Syed Afendy Ali Syed Abid Ali said the actual plan was to only build two lanes for each way to ease smooth flow of traffic.

“But, due to the expected dense population in the area, and with the Sri Rampai LRT station near the Desa Putra Kondominium, we plan to install a traffic light there,” he added.

He said the project was expected to cost RM47.1 million and would be borne by DBKL.

The project will take two years to complete, he added.
