The Global Business Services (GBS) Iskandar, which aims to facilitate local and foreign companies set up their GBS operations here, hopes to lure RM6.5 billion in investments by 2020.
The investments will create close to 14,000 high-value and knowledge-based jobs, i2M Ventures Sdn Bhd Managing Director Zulfiqar Zainuddin said.
“So far, eight companies have invested here with committed investments of RM1.2 billion for the past five years, creating 2,269 high-value and knowledge-based jobs,” he told reporters after the launch of GBS Iskandar at Pinewood Studios here Saturday.
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed officiated the ceremony.
Zulfiqar said i2M Ventures was in constant discussion with interested parties, describing it as “a healthy pipeline” and expecting more things to come in the next 12 to 18 months.
The GBS Iskandar programme is managed by i2M Ventures, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd.
GBS Iskandar will leverage on Iskandar Puteri’s strategic location, cost-competitiveness, language capabilities and highly-skilled and multi-racial talent pool.
It will be added to the existing Entry Point Project (EPP) 2 of the Business Services National Key Economic Area (NKEA) of the Economic Transformation Programme.
