KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit eased against the US dollar at opening today dampened by weaker oil price sentiment, dealers said.
At 9am, the ringgit was quoted at 4.2850/2940 versus the greenback from 4.2630/2680 at 5pm on Wednesday.
A dealer said Brent crude, the global crude oil benchmark, was down almost four per cent to USD48.58 a barrel as rising US crude inventories and anticipation of continuous weak demand dampened the sentiment.
The local note also traded mostly lower against other major currencies.
It depreciated against the Singapore dollar to 3.1537/0610 from Wednesday’s 3.0487/0527 and eased against the yen to 3.5273/5356 from 3.5150/5194.
The ringgit weakened against the British pound to 6.5882/6033 from 6.5731/5817 but improved against the euro to 4.6544/6659 from 4.6560/6632.
